Well I know that you and I both are not to happy about the conversion to 410A over R-22 while it is true the 410A will be more friendly to the ozone it will come at a higher price to the units sold at least that is what I think they will do. We saw the same thing happen when they went from 12 SEER being the minimum to 13 SEER being the new lowest standard. Unit prices went up at least $500 as I recall. I have not doubt they will not miss a beat and do the same thing with the 410A units. But worse then that you have to buy all new equipment just for that special type of freon. I can't help but wonder if this was a strategy taken from the computer industry.
I know for a fact that they have drop in replacements right now for R-22 that are environmentally friendly that have nearly identical characteristics as the old R-22 without the danger to the Earth.
One such replacement comes to mind it is called NU-22
