It is very sad to see the misfortunate deaths due to heat related illnesses so I prepared this article in hope that it helps all who reads it.
It is such a shame to see people dying of the heat. It is currently 2007 and we have had record heat waves going through the US. I recall seeing on the news alone in one day that 37 people had died due to heat related illnesses. One heat related death that comes to mind is this poor couple that was living on Cedar Lane RD in Greenville, SC they found the man passed out and the wife had already passed on. It was the most tragic thing to hear of. Had I had any idea at all I surely would have begged or borrowed something to help keep them alive. So with that in mind please keep the heat in mind and check on your elderly neighbor or anyone that you think might need checking on. Please everyone let us not let one single person more perish to heat related illnesses when it can be prevented.
Here is some helpful advice to beat the heat. This is what we do to help us manage the heat while we work.
Keep water handy at all times drink lots of it
-
Take a rag and wet it down with cold water and lay it on your neck it helps cool you off.
-
When your working try to make sure to take regular breaks to cool back down at least every 15 minutes. This is especially true if your working in an attic temperatures can easily reach 120 to 140 just like a hot car.
-
Work but work at an easy pace. This helps keep you going without over doing it. My dad always said a steady worker is better than a dead one.
-
Drink lots of fluids like I said before but if you can stand the taste then drink Gatorade.
-
Try to work smart and schedule any outdoor tasks around 7am till 3pm.
-
Keep in mind just because they say it is 95 outside does not mean that is your surrounding temperature. The ground and concrete or bricks as well as metal could easily be radiating anywhere between 110 to 135.
This is all very old knowledge and very simple stuff but you would be amazed how many people just don't know how to manage the heat. Nothing however manages it nearly as well as a professionally installed air conditioner from our company. Not only does the equipment hold up to the test of time well with a solid warranty. If you choose to do so we can also install a quality duct system design specifically for your home to ensure total comfort.
